Definition

A Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) plans and closes maintenance work — schedules, priorities, assignments, parts, and completion history. It is essential for uptime. It is not, by itself, a full lifecycle register for custody, financial attributes, and audit evidence across teams.

Where CMMS stops

When leadership asks who holds the asset, what it is worth on the books, or whether the floor matches the ledger, those questions sit beside maintenance — and usually need EALM coverage.
